Inclusive Education for Children with Disabilities: Legal Duties of Schools

Inclusive education ka matlab hai ki disabilities wale bachche alag institutions me nahi, mainstream schools me as far as possible, appropriate support ke sath padhein. Law ab ye idea strongly push karta hai – “same classroom, equal respect, reasonable support”.

Schools ke legal duties typically:

  • Barrier-free access – ramps, lifts, accessible toilets, safe corridors,
  • Individualised education plans (IEPs) jahan required ho,
  • Special educators ya trained teachers for learning disabilities,
  • Extra time, scribes, or assistive devices in exams,
  • Anti-bullying policies specifically protecting disabled children.

“Admission dena hi bahut favour kar diya” wala attitude legally acceptable nahi. Denial of admission, repeated exclusion from activities, ya constant harassment tolerance threshold cross kar sakta hai aur discrimination ke cases ban sakte hain.

Parents ko rights aur available remedies (education department, disability commissioners, courts) ke baare me basic awareness honi chahiye. At the same time, collaboration important hai – school ke limitations, resources, aur training needs ko samajhkar jointly plan banana effective rehta hai.

True inclusion sirf ramp lagane se nahi aata; teacher training, peer sensitisation, aur leadership commitment equally zaroori hai.
